Debra Risberg

Debra is a former Stress Management Specialist for the Dr. Dean Ornish Program. She is certified at the 500 hour level in Kripalu Yoga and is currently teaching the Yoga therapy and Moderate Yoga classes at the studio.  She has devoted much of her work and time toward helping people in chronic pain and has taught several workshops (Yoga for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain) for yoga teachers at Kripalu Center in Stockbridge, MA.

She also practices Anusara Yoga and gives private sessions of yoga therapy. She works in collaboration with Dr. Ashlesha Raut, the Ayurvedic Physician at Main Street Yoga providing yoga, breathing and meditation training to her patients.

Debra is working for the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery as a Yoga and Stress Management Teacher.  She was a former student of Manohar Harkare (Kakaji) beloved yoga master of Nagpur, India where she learned the deep restorative practice of Yoga Nidra. She has also studied Yoga Nidra with Richard Miller and has had training with many of today’s top yoga teachers.

Debra is currently working with Ashlesha Raut and Jeffrey Shoaf developing the Ayurvedic clinic at Main Street Yoga.  As a student and colleague of Dr. Raut’s Debra is continuing her study and practice of Ayurveda.  See the Ayurveda page for more information.

Her desire is to help people discover how yoga, ayruveda and meditation, can improve their health and increase happiness and purpose in life. Debra, who has an MFA in Visual Art, was formerly a curator of Contemporary Art, a professional photographer and graphic designer.  In 2010 she received the McLean County “Women of Distinction” award for her achievements in business.  This prestigious award is sponsored by the YWCA.
